About the event

Community‑Based Social Marketing (CBSM) is an evidence‑driven approach used across waste reduction, recycling, energy, transportation, water, and climate resilience to create lasting behavior change. This half‑day workshop gives solid waste professionals practical tools to reduce contamination, increase participation in recycling and organics programs, and improve management of hazardous or hard‑to‑recycle materials. Through hands‑on activities and real case studies, participants will explore the five steps of CBSM, learn how to identify barriers and benefits, and apply proven strategies such as commitments, prompts, and social norms—perfect for both newcomers and those seeking a smart refresher.

Following the workshop, attendees will step into a vibrant networking event designed to spark meaningful conversations and build lasting professional connections. The gathering features a dynamic Emerging Leaders panel facilitated by Chapter President Haley Kurnert, offering fresh insights and energizing dialogue across the industry. Expect a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere where introductions come easily and every conversation has…
